In 2024 our school is celebrating its 150 anniversary – it's an exciting time to be at Helidon!

Helidon State School provides an inclusive small school environment staffed by caring people who are responsive to the needs of all students. We provide high quality education that makes a positive difference to the lives of our students. We equip young people for the future to enable them to contribute to a socially, economically and culturally vibrant society.

Helidon State School is a co-educational state school situated between Gatton and Toowoomba (about a 20 minutes drive to each). There are about 115 students currently at the school from Prep to year 6.

The school has most of the services of a 'big school' such as access to a Learning Support Teacher, Music Teacher, PE Teacher, Guidance Officer as well as visiting teachers. An Instrumental Music Program operates for students in Years 4 - 6. We offer a Breaky Club twice a week before school.

The school is growing production partnerships with a range of community organisations and individuals.

Our values include:

  • Knowing our students and setting clear expectations to ensure they remain on-track to achieve positive educational outcomes.
  • With an inclusive lens, our goal is to have happy, healthy and engaged learners, staff and parents.
  • We embrace diversity and are working to create positive and constructive partnerships with the local Helidon community and across the Lockyer Valley.
  • Our Middle School program (years 4-6) focusses heavily on developing the practical literacy and numeracy skills young people need to broaden their learning opportunities and life choices. These build on the solid foundation provided in the Junior School program.
  • Our Junior School program (Prep- year 3) focusses on a good start to a child's schooling which has a significant impact on setting the foundations for lifelong learning development, engagement and achievement. In these early years of schooling, early development of literacy and numeracy skills set the foundations for extended learning in the middle primary school years.
