The following text was sent home in a letter with students today (31-7-25) with details about the upcoming teachers strike on Wednesday August 6th, 2025. This is part on ongoing enterprise bargaining negotiations between the Qld State Government and the Queensland Teacher's Union (QTU).
Thursday 30th July 2025
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
I wish to inform you that members of the Queensland Teachers' Union (QTU) at Helidon State School have advised the Department of Education of their intention to participate in a 24-hour stop work action on Wednesday, 6 August 2025.
As a result, most of our teachers will not be attending school on Wednesday, 6 August 2025 as part of a statewide strike related to ongoing Teachers' enterprise bargaining negotiations between the Department and the QTU.
I want to reassure you that while there will be a significantly reduced number of school staff onsite during this day of industrial action, arrangements have been made to ensure students are supported.
The safety and wellbeing of students remain our highest priority, as does ensuring that appropriate supervision is provided to all students attending school during the industrial action.
At this stage, it is unclear on how many teachers from Helidon State School will be participating in this industrial action. However, please be assured that the school will remain open during this time for supervsion only.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work through this matter.
Yours sincerely,
Mark Robertson
Principal
